Frequently Asked Questions about 1and1Mail

How many emails can 1and1Mail send out?

Free Edition: 50 emails at a time.
Personal Edition: 1,000 emails at a time.
Business Edition or above: Unlimited.

However, 1and1Mail does not limit the times of sending, which means, there is no limit on the total number of emails you can send even though you use Free or Personal Edition. However, there are other factors you should take into consideration. Please keep on reading.

Can I use my free email accounts with SMTP service (e.g. Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo! Mail) to send mass emails?

Yes, you can use free SMTP service to send mass emails through 1and1Mail. But please keep in mind that all free email accounts with SMTP service impose a limit on the number of emails users can send per hour, per 8 hours, or per day. If you exceed the limit, your email accounts or IP addresses will get suspended.

A simple way to go over the send limit is to sign up more email accounts from different email service providers (Gmail, Outlook.com/Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, etc.) and add these accounts into 1and1Mail Account Manager. When you start your email marketing campaign, 1and1Mail will rotate between these accounts at a speed you configure and maximize your email deliverability.

How fast can 1and1Mail send out emails?

The speed depends on the following factors:

1. The email service provider you are using
2. The size of the email itself, especially the attachment size
3. The number of email accounts you are using (the more, the faster)
4. The sending interval setting in 1and1Mail

1and1Mail is considered as the world’s most lightweight and efficient email marketing software. Therefore, under the same Inbox Placement Rate, 1and1Mail is the fastest among all mass mail senders!

What is the email send rate 1and1Mail recommends?

Although there is no standard, to play safe, we recommend you to send no more than 1 email per minute, and no more than 500 emails per day.

But of course, if you have many emails accounts or use paid email SMTP services, you can achieve a much larger number.

What if I want to send out millions of emails in one day?

If that is the case, 1and1Mail should not be your choice.

You may try some subscription-based mass email services. They have powerful servers to handle large volume of emails.

But the cost is also much higher in the long-term. You pay based on the number of emails you send per month.

How many SMTP accounts do I need to setup?

It depends on your business needs. Generally speaking, the more accounts you setup, the more emails you are able to send out within a short period of time. Most free email service providers limit the number of emails you can send per connection, per hour, or per day with one single email account.

Therefore, we suggest you sign up more than one email accounts from different email service providers, and let 1and1Mail control the traffic and timing of email delivery for you.

What is the SMTP server address and port number of my email account?

Different email service providers have different settings. You can refer to our summary of commonly used email server settings for more information.

Which one is better, Text or HTML Email?

Text emails only include plain text, and no decorations. Their size is usually much smaller and virus free. They are less likely to be considered as spams.

HTML emails can include HTML codes and present a much better look to your customers like many webpages on the Internet. However, they are more likely to be considered as spams because virus can be embedded in the HTML code easily and some email clients block all HTML codes.

Can I add cc or bcc to the Email?

We understand cc and bcc are normal features of an Email, but we disable them because if you put multiple addresses in cc or bcc fields, there is no way to personalize each email by the recipient’s personal details.

Therefore, we want to ensure one email corresponds to one recipient only.

Is it a must to upgrade if there is a new version?

Similar to Windows upgrade, we offer new features and fix old bugs in a new version once in a while.

You can continue using your existing version without upgrading.

How can I register 1and1Mail after purchase?

1and1Mail does not collect your credit card information. You will be directed to secure gateways, e.g. PayPal, to make the payment. After the payment, you will immediately receive a link to download the software and the registration code.

How much is it to upgrade from 1and1Mail Personal Edition to Business or Ultimate Edition?

Customers can pay the price difference between Personal Edition and Business Edition to upgrade. Please contact sales at yetesoft.com for more details.

Why does 1and1Mail connect to the Internet when it starts?

Some users may find out 1and1Mail connects to the Internet every time it starts. Please rest assured that this is not a virus if you have downloaded it from official sources that we provide (download.com, Softpedia, Brothersoft, Tucows). 1and1Mail connects to the Internet for the following reasons:

1. It detects if there is a new version available, but we do not upgrade it automatically.
2. We recheck your registration code to prevent pirated issues.

Can 1and1Mail be installed and run on a thumb drive?

Whether or not 1and1Mail can be installed and run on a thumb drive depends on the stability of the thumb drive. When 1and1Mail is sending mass emails, it is also reading and writing data to and from the thumb drive, although not very frequently. If something goes wrong with the thumb drive (access error, or the thumb drive is removed), 1and1Mail may stop running and it may affect the email deliverability of your marketing campaign.

Therefore, we suggest the following when you are running 1and1Mail on a thumb drive:

1. If the sending task can be finished within 30 minutes or the number of recipient is small, it is fine to run 1and1Mail from a thumb drive. After all, the stability of the thumb drive is worse than hard disk, so it is better to keep the sending time short.

2. You can install 1and1Mail on a thumb drive, but you can copy the whole folder to the hard disk and run it from the hard disk. After sending out the email campaigns, you can copy the whole folder from the hard disk back to the thumb drive to ensure all data and records are stored in the same place.

Last but not least, if you are 1and1Mail Free Edition user, feel free to use the software anywhere you like. If you are 1and1Mail Personal and Business Edition user, 1 license only allows you to run the software on 1 PC.
